The Most Important Question You Will Ever Answer
I John 5:5-12

1. The witnesses, v. 6-8

a) the water- Jesus’ baptism

“Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. John would have prevented him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he consented. And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
                           -Matthew 3:13-17

b) the blood- Jesus’ crucifixion

“And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit. And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split. The tombs also were opened. And many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised, and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many. When the centurion and those who were with him, keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were filled with awe and said, “Truly this was the Son of God!”
                           -Matthew 27:50-56

3. The life, v. 11-12

Zoe is the absolute fullness of life, both essential and ethical, which belongs to God. Life real and genuine, a life active and vigorous, devoted to God, blessed, in the portion even in this world of those who put their trust in Christ, but after the resurrection to be consummated by new experiences, among them a more perfect body and to last forever.

Mental worship…

Why is a “water only Gospel” not sufficient for us?
Which is bigger in your life these days, the testimony of man or the testimony of God?
How has your understanding of “eternal life” changed?
Do you experience this Life we were talking about today?
What will you pray as a result of what you heard today?
