Why has the message of God's love lost its power to deeply move and motivate us in modern culture?

In this Advent sermon on 1 John 4:10–11, we explore how to be genuinely motivated by the love of God without falling into shallow sentimentality. The message addresses a crucial, often overlooked reality: understanding the love of God requires understanding His holy response to sin. Moving from spiritual deadness to divine life, discover how Christ becoming the propitiation for our sins transforms our worship, deepens our gratitude, and compels us to love one another by reflex rather than effort.

In this episode, we cover:

  • Starting in the Right Place: Why humanity is incapable of initiating true love for God and why we must begin with God's initiative.
  • The Necessity of Understanding Wrath: How acknowledging what we naturally deserve fills God's mercy and love with awe and wonder.
  • Propitiation and the Cross: Understanding how Jesus satisfied divine judgment to bring us into true reconciliation.
  • Reflexive Community Love: Why receiving God’s undeserved grace naturally compels believers to love those around them.
