The Prevailing Power of God’s Word
Acts 19:8-20

1. Gospel saturation, v. 8-12

The pattern of apostolic preaching we see in Paul…

they reasoned and persuaded people in dialogue
they were bold
the focus was the Kingdom of God
they expected resistance

“They eventually descended to attacking in public what they did not want to embrace; and they did this simply because they wanted, if possible, to have everyone share in their impiety.”
              -John Calvin

2. Gospel imitation, v. 13-16

“And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.”
             -Ephesians 4:30

“Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”
              -I John 4:4

“When the unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, but finds none. Then it says,  ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when it comes, it find the house empty, swept and put in order. Then it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and dwell there, and the last state of that person is worse than the first. So also will it be with this evil generation.”
             -Matthew 12:43-45

3. Gospel demonstration, v. 17-20

repentance- v. 18
renouncing- v. 19

Mental worship…

1.What was your last experience with resistance and how did you respond?
2.Are you still holding on to any tangible remnants of your old life?
3. Do you consider yourself as someone who is known by the enemy?
4. How has the faith changed what you value?
5. How would you explain the Kingdom of God to someone?
