What Our Church Believes
I Corinthians 6:1-11

1. Our fundamental problem is not being unwilling but being unrighteous, v. 9

  • Romans 3:9-19

What does this mean?

a Religion won’t change you- Jews
b Intelligence cannot excuse you- Greeks
c Everybody does their own thing
d Our preferred behaviors don’t bring us peace
e Because we don’t know God we don’t fear God
f Everyone has fallen short of God’s standard and is accountable to God
g There is nothing we can do to change this reality

2. Everybody has a past, v. 9-10

Two things about people with a past…

a) they are very loving
b) they are very worshipful

3. God’s power is bigger than your past, v. 11

Draw your attention to three words…

a) But you were washed…
b) …but you were sanctified…
c) …but you were justified...

Three things about conversion…

a) True conversion equips us for what the Bible requires of us.
b) The expression of grace comes from the experience of grace.
c) Salvation is not a transaction but a relationship

Mental worship…

1 Would you rather be defrauded or the Gospel be discredited?
2 How has your past informed and influenced who you are today?
3 Does your experience of forgiveness affect how you worship?
4 Do you think Christians should seek arbitration instead of going to court?
5 Did you hear anything today that has the capacity to set you on fire?
